Job Description:
AltaLink is recruiting for the position of Manager, Financial Reporting. We are seeking a results oriented, collaborative, ambitious individual to join our team. Reporting directly to the Director, Corporate Accounting and Reporting, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and compliant external financial reporting, including consolidated financial statements and Management’s Discussion and Analysis. You will also be responsible for preparing complete, accurate and timely financial information, financial analysis, and management reporting for AltaLink, its owner and managers. You will be expected to develop effective working relationships with diverse groups within AltaLink, its affiliates, and its owner, and provide them with analysis and support, as well as interpretation of critical accounting issues. You possess a professional accounting designation with at least ten years of progressive, related financial reporting experience. To be successful in this position, you will have an excellent knowledge of public company financial reporting requirements, including IFRS® Accounting Standards and U.S. GAAP, and prior financial reporting experience at a management level and experience in consolidation and implementing new accounting standards. You are able to communicate effectively, and you have strong analytical and problem-solving skills. It would be an asset if you have utility accounting experience, particularly in the transmission industry, and experience with utility regulatory accounting.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the Financial Reporting group, and take ownership of, and be accountable for, the actions and results of the group.
- Plan and organize the work of the group, including the development of deadlines to ensure that internal and external reporting timelines are met.
- Prepare accurate financial analyses, financial information, and financial reports that are required by other groups, senior management, committees, Board of Directors, and AltaLink’s owner.
- Prepare accurate and compliant external financial reporting, including consolidated financial statements and Management’s Discussion and Analysis.
- Lead and implement new and amended IFRS Accounting Standards and U.S. GAAP.
- Provide input to reviews of critical accounting issues.
- Participate in the review, revision, development and implementation of accounting policies.
- Liaise with internal, external and regulatory auditors, including agreeing on the timing of audits and audit protocols, the provision of required information, and IFRS Accounting Standards and U.S. GAAP treatment.
- Participate in budgeting and forecasting plans.
- Recruit, manage performance, mentor, and offer leadership and guidance to the members of the Financial Reporting group.
- Develop effective working relationships with key stakeholders, particularly with AltaLink’s affiliates, senior management, and owner.
- Carry out other duties, as required, at the direction of the Director.
- Demonstrate key behaviors and meet identified expectations outlined in our four cultural pillars – one team, continuous improvement, customer focus and personal accountability.
Requirements
- Professional accounting designation with at least ten years of progressive, related financial reporting experience.
- Excellent knowledge of public company financial reporting requirements, including IFRS Accounting Standards and U.S. GAAP requirements.
- Experience preparing external financial reporting, including consolidated financial statements and Management’s Discussion and Analysis.
- Experience preparing financial information, analysis and reporting to senior management, committees and Board of Directors.
- Experience with implementing new accounting standards, including preparing accounting treatment memos.
- Consolidation accounting experience.
- Prior experience at a management level.
- Proven ability/experience in above noted responsibilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive customer outcomes.
- Utility regulatory accounting experience would be an asset.
- SAP accounting experience would be an asset.
- Proven track record of good attendance and performance.
