Lab: Dr. Qutuba Karwi Laboratory

Dr. Qutuba Karwi's laboratory at Memorial University of Newfoundland is seeking a highly

motivated Postdoctoral Scholar to join an active research program focused on understanding

metabolic alterations in cardiometabolic disease. The lab investigates mechanisms by which

immune cells influence the development and progression of cardiometabolic disease and how

targeting immunometabolism could affect disease severity, using integrative approaches

spanning molecular, cellular, and whole-organ models.

Position Overview

The successful candidate will lead and contribute to projects examining metabolic regulation in

the heart, with opportunities to design independent studies aligned with the lab's research focus.

This role offers strong mentorship, support for fellowship applications, and opportunities to build

an independent research profile.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, execute, and troubleshoot experiments in cardiovascular and metabolic research

• Analyze and interpret data, including statistical analysis

• Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and contribute to grant applications

• Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate trainees

• Present research findings at national and international conferences

• Contribute to the collaborative and collegial environment of the laboratory

Qualifications

• PhD in physiology, biomedical sciences, pharmacology, or a related field

• Strong background in cardiovascular sciences and/or energy metabolism

• Demonstrated track record of peer-reviewed publications

• Experience with in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro cardiac models is an asset

• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Experience

• Cardiac functional assessment techniques

• Molecular and biochemical assays related to metabolic pathways

• Experience working with animal models

• Experience in flow cytometry and FACS.

• Independent project development and supervision of trainees
