Role Summary
We're seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join out team of Product experts. The Mechanical Design Engineer will report to the VP of Atomization & Innovation and is responsible for end to end pre-loaded tray packaging and capping for a range of vaporization devices. The role focuses on translating product concepts through the design and development stage-gate process from concept to mass production as well as face to face customer support.
Role Responsibilities
3D Modelling & Technical Design
- Create and maintain detailed 3D CAD models of components, sub assemblies and product assemblies
- Produce fully dimensioned engineering drawings for manufacturing with relevant GD&T standards applied
- Manage CAD data, version control and drawing updates in accordance with BMS
- Maintain structure BOMs and support change control activities
Mechanical Design & Product Development
- Develop mechanical solutions for foams, trays, capping plates, alignment features, etc.
- Design components exposed to high compressive forces
- Perform tolerance stack analysis to ensure correct fit and function of precision assemblies
- Support Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA), particularly for injection molding, CNC machining, stamping and small format assemblies
Testing, Analysis & Scale Up
- Support prototype builds and iterative design refinements
- Assist in resolving mechanical fit, durability or assembly issues
- Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners to resolve tooling and production challenges
Quality & Regulatory
- Ensure drawings and models comply with relevant standards and internal design controls
- Support risk management activities (e.g. FMEA) related to mechanical failures
- Contribute to technical documentation required for regulated product development
- Maintain traceable engineering records in line with quality management systems
Additional Responsibilities:
- Actively promote a culture of innovation, curiosity and continuous improvement
- Provide technical guidance and constructive challenge during design reviews and team discussions
- Create a positive atmosphere by demonstrating a growth mindset and setting an example to embody the company's values
- Identify and address challenges and obstacles that may impede the company's progress. Team members should be skilled at finding creative solutions to complex problems
Requirements
Formal Education or Equivalent
- Bachelors/Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline
Years of Experience
- 2+ years Experience in CAD based mechanical design
Specialized skills, knowledge, or certifications unique to this role
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Creo preferred)
- Strong understanding of GD&T and Tolerance Analysis
- Experience designing plastic injection molded parts and/or machined components
- Experience with PDM/PLM systems is desirable (Windchill preferred)
- Experience working with tooling manufacturers and suppliers
- Excellent analytical and problem solving capability
- Comfortable working collaboratively in a fast-paced, global environment
