Reports To

  • Plant Supervisor

Summary

The Industrial Sewing Machine Operator operates sewing machines to join canvas, tarp, and other industrial fabrics in order to produce tents, rig tarps, insulated blankets, and a variety of custom products. This position requires regular or periodic rotation in various plant departments as required.

Job Duties

  • Operate single, double, and multi-needle sewing machines to complete products as per customer specifications
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions 
  • Inspect own work in order to meet quality standards  
  • Monitor sewing machine operation as per maintenance program
  • Verify fabrics, threads, and parts; move/handle materials as per work order
  • Other duties as assigned and/or directed by Operation leaders

Requirements

  • Experience operating industrial sewing machines such as Singer, Union Special, Brother, Juki, and Consew is preferred
  • Must be able to speak, read, and understand English in order to communicate effectively
  • Excellent hand/eye coordination
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing /assembly environment would be an asset
  • Willing to learn new skills and grow with the company

Work Conditions

  • Manufacturing settting, Monday through Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm; occasional overtime may be required
  • Work involves sitting, standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, stooping, and pushing/pulling
  • Will be required to lift/move objects weighing up to 10 - 50 lbs on a regular basis
  • Many repetitive tasks
  • Area is well-ventilated, but there may be occasional exposure to uncommon odours from different fabrics
