POSITION GOAL:
The Winnipeg Tool & Die Leadership role is responsible for directing and overseeing all activities within the Winnipeg Tool & Die department. The position also provides technical guidance and support to Tooling Technicians across other NABC locations, including St. Cloud, Anniston, and KMG. In addition, this role delivers tooling‑related expertise and support to all New Flyer manufacturing facilities to ensure consistency, quality, and operational excellence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for the overall direction and control of the Tool & Die department from tool design through tool build-up.
  • Provides leadership to the department through effective communication and coaching as well as progressive discipline when required.
  • Develops annual budgets for manpower, expenses, and capital expenditures.
  • Tracks and controls expenditures on monthly basis to ensure compliance with budget.
  • Develops plans for capital projects, submits capital proposals, and monitors capital projects to ensure they are completed on time and on budget.
  • Implements and maintains a work order system for all tooling requests.
  • Identifies and implements improvement initiatives for tooling in response to hazards, ergonomics, and other safety related requests.
  • Monitors manpower allocation and status to ensure staff are properly deployed and on schedule.
  • Ensures a performance and development program is followed through with all employees.
  • Determines training and development requirements of staff and communicates with the Training Institute to meet needs.
  • Ensures department recruitment needs are identified, met and are within budget. 
  • Support the administration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement – ensure compliance is maintained and understand the supervisor role in the grievance process.
  • Provides constructive and collaborative feedback to design engineering on new designs and how they relate to tooling requirements or the overall manufacturability of the product.
  • Ensures department is in-line with corporate guidelines and requirements.
  • Implements and maintains a preventative maintenance process for tooling that is compliant with ISO9000.
  • Supports OPEX by maintaining 5S standards and coordinating continuous improvement activities.
  • Oversees vendors completing tooling projects and inspects completed work.
  • Responsible to ensure all controls (ICFR Internal Controls) identified under their area of responsibility are designed and operating as outlined in the internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Ensure policies and processes are established and adhered to ensure goals and objectives for all regulatory and legal requirements are met including organizational quality, environmental, health & safety programs.

Requirements

  • Post‑secondary degree in engineering or management; certification as a Machinist or Tool & Die Maker is preferred
  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing or tool‑making environment
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, Siemens Teamcenter, and NX CAD
  • Strong teamwork, collaboration, and leadership abilities
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple tasks
  • Intermediate computer skills and basic mechanical aptitude
  • High‑level CAD proficiency (Teamcenter and NX preferred)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods and work effectively in a manufacturing environment
